How to combat Shame by embracing Vulnerability, Empathy and Connection
Does "I'm not good enough" sound familiar? Most of us have some level of self-doubt though what happens when shame comes knocking on our door? Shame is an unspoken epidemic, the secret behind many forms of human disturbance and struggle. Brene Brown studies human connection - our ability to empathise, belong, love. Following hundreds of interviews she thought she’d found some common threads: that connection is the key to everything, but shame – or a fear of disconnection – keeps us from it. Brene also discovered that there was a class of people who simply felt good enough, who weren’t plagued by fear or doubt. And the key appears to be is that they were able to be vulnerable.
Check out these two inspiring Ted Talks as Brene shares a deep insight from her research and explores what can happen when people confront their shame head on - one that sent her on a personal quest to know herself as well as to understand humanity.
